Jingle all the way

We the people of India, no doubt are crazy for cricket but we are equally crazy about our film songs. Were in the world you will find people buying movie scores. Visit a music shop and you'll be amazed to find the collection of bollywood music they have. Tollywood and chennai films music are also worth listening. Our music channels telecast movies songs close to 70% of their show time, though most of them are repeats still we listen to them again and again.

So what can a company do to give them an edge over others in terms of marketing specially in India. The answer is: Prepare a jingle, a catchy one; wordings hardly matter!

Even if the product is not targeted for children they will hum the tunes. This brings the brand to the house. I still remember Nirma ad "Nirma - washing powder Nirma, Doodh si safeedi...". Everytime I used to see other detergent (mostly Surf) at my house I used to say we should get Nirma.
How about Titan Watches? The melodious piano tune, each note of that tune strikes a new chord in you.

But its Airtel that has managed to take its Jingle to altogether a new level. Its composed by legendary AR Rehman. They have even altered the tune successfully in lot many ways to give their ads a new feel. As a new entrant Tata-Docomo has managed to get their brand into the households with its unique jingle "Do-co-mo... Do-Ccoo-Mooo". Even now Reliance GSM has roped in Hritik and a decent (airtel like) tune for their promotion. I'll not mention Vodafone (or Hutch) here as they have completely different strategy for themselves. Aircel, Indicom and Uninor have to do a lot of catching up in this competitive mobile services market.

There are other jingles that have made a huge impact like cadbury's "kya swaad hai zindagi mein", Britania's "tin tin ttrind", Nestle Maggie's "bas do minute..."

Last but not the least: Remember when every scooter was called a chetak? It was Bajaj that brought the royal dream ride for every Indian middle class family and the jingle that is still hummed even though there are no more chetaks galloping on the roads "buland bharat ki buland tasveer... Hamara Bajaj".

That's it, if an ad has nice catchy humming music Indian customers will sing it, talk about it, try it, recommend it and eventually the brand will be the talk of the town. Isn't that all required out of an advertisement?

Roy of Hope

I was trying to recollect songs that I liked during my college days, videos with a concept and amazing direction. One among many such songs is Shehzad Roy's - "Saali tu maani nahi"... this post is not about that song. I was searching "saali..." on online video storehouse a.k.a youtube and I stumbled upon a song "Laga Reh" sung by Shehzad Roy

The song is a great satire on our usual way of leading a life in which we tend to make close to nill contribution towards our neighbourhood, our city or our Nation! We do things they way they are being done from ages, without even questioning why they are done this way? Is there a better way to do it ?

The song made me ponder ways to make our small life memorable, to make a mark out of it. Giving something back to world we live in. Yes! These thought came from listening to this song only. Its a gripping song do try it.

Doing some research over Shehzad on wiki I was surprised to see what all he's trying to do for his society. At 27, he became the youngest recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz similar to our Padma Shri. With a passion for reforming the education of the country he has adopted a govt. girls school. His NGO, Zindagi Trust has face lifted a govt. school that was in ruins to a school equivalent, rather better than a private school in both in curriculam as well as infrastructure. Despite the opposition of fundamentalist society, he is doing the best he can do.

I have personally become a huge fan of his work (apart from his music) and novel idea of school adoption. He's indeed a "roy of hope" for Pakistan’s education system. Wish he get all the support from the government, society for his mission to transform the educational institutes and to provide good education to poor and needy children.

epic de vyas

Long long time ago Mr. Ved Vyas wrote an epic called Mahābhārata. He had his characters well carved out each one described to the depth.

In our era we are fortunate enough to have a reincarnation of Mr. Vyas. in form of "Virender Vyas".

Our little Vyas has spent his childhood in and around the Dhauladhars in Kangra valley. There he used to wander in the jungles, spent hours sitting beside the streams in search of ultimate peace.

In his 20s he moved to a small town of Hamirpur for scholarly pursuits. He was looking for the Nirvana - state of complete bliss delight and peace. To find it, he inclined himself towards finding the secrets buried in the Vedas, drowned himself in the psychedelic tunes of Pink Floyd and performed mediation in his dungeon illuminated with a sole pallid yellow electric bulb.

For Vyas the mission for life is to find the purpose of his life, to discover his soul. Doing so he has also penned down his thoughts his observations

I was running late for my office today... yea as there was a Weekly Team meeting! I couldn't sleep the previous night because there was no electricity for more than 8 hrs. Yes 8 Hours! probably a power cut or could be a power failure that no one bothered to rectify during the wee hours of night. No one uses electricity that much during night time, so why waste our sleep for a minor fault. That's the thought going in the mind of the Electric Dept. employee. Lets fix this in the morning. I'll not be paid extra if I fix this immediately.

Thankfully I managed to get few hours of sleep early in the morning despite of the heat and humidity. Isn't Bangalore becoming hotter these days ?

I woke up just to find that again there's no water in the house because the motor was not switched on. Thanks to the electricity dept. again. But the story is same elsewhere in Bangalore too, even if there is electricity.

Some marvelous and so called Urban Lifestyle Apartments don't even have a public water supply. So how do they get the water? The best and low cost solution is a Bore well. Present garden city and once a city of lakes is seeing all its lakes going dry, sinking water table. We blame this to the rains and forget at what rate we are draining out the ground water. If you don't have enough ground water, a water taker specially for you is just a call away. An upcoming, fruitful business in Bangalore is famous water(drinking safe) tanker supply, the tanker that will spill gallons of its water over the roads while trying to reach your home. But still will have sufficient water to fill up your basement tank.

I was lucky that there was a bucket full of water...
